I made this cake for a history competition at school. The teacher asked us to create a model or picture of a castle during the reign of William the Conqueror. I chose a Motte and Bailey Castle. It took about two hours to make the cake, colour the fondant, roll it out and cover the cake. I used miniature matchmakers for the lower fencing and chocolate fingers for the upper mound. The ladder was the most fun to make and we stuck it down with chocolate icing. Unfortunately there were quite a few teacakes and chocolate fingers so I helped clear up by eating them!
